New TomTom GPS Units Use Real-World Speed Data

The new Go 730 and Go 930 GPS devices calculate routes based on data from other users instead of relying on posted speeds.

GPS navigation vendor TomTom today announced a new line of devices that will use real-world traffic data to produce more realistic calculations of the fastest driving routes.

TomTom's new IQ Routes technology will make its debut on the next iterations of the company's flagship automotive navigation devices, the Go 730 and Go 930. Due to appear in stores at the end of April, the TomTom Go 730 ($449) and 930 ($499) will also introduce improved assistance for navigating roads with multiple lanes and complex junctions.

Nokia Smart Phones Getting Microsoft Silverlight

Microsoft's Flash competitor, Silverlight, will be appearing on Nokia Series 40 and 60 smart phones.

In its quest to make its Silverlight technology as ubiquitous as its competitor Flash, Microsoft is moving full speed ahead to promote adoption of the technology through some strategic moves and partnerships it will highlight at its annual MIX 08 conference, including a deal with Nokia to put the technology on mobile devices.

Dell's Business Priorities Drive Revenue Up 10 Percent in Fourth Quarter

Dell today reported results for its fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008, with revenue up 10 percent year-over-year to $16 billion, unit growth of 19 percent, operating income of $776 million and earnings per share of $0.31. Revenue for the full fiscal year was $61.1 billion, an increase of 6 percent year-over-year and earnings per share grew 15 percent to $1.31.
